Let Diet Treats Food Poisoning

Food poisoning can be a reason of eating food or drinking beverage that has been contaminated with harmful substances including bacteria, viruses, parasites or others. Vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and abdominal pain are the most common symptoms of food poisoning. Usually, nausea and vomiting within six hours are caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus. Abdominal cramp and diarrhea within 8-16 hours are caused by Clostridium perfringens and Bacillus cereus.

Most cases may go away without medications. Putting fluids back in the body is the main treatment for food poisoning and the process is known as rehydration. Vomiting and diarrhea can cause loss a lot of water which can lead to dehydration. Thus, drink plenty of water, as much as you can, even if you can only sip it. Oral rehydration salts (ORSs) are recommended to replace electrolytes in body. They are available in small sachets which can be bought from pharmacy. Get rest and avoid strenuous activities. Your immune system is fighting with the toxins, thus, let the antibodies get enough energy to win the fight.

Losing appetite can happen, but, food still important as a source of energy. It could be tough to gain appetite but it is important to nourish the body with something.  Get food that is easily to be digested. Mild food including soup, broth, fruit juices, fruits, vegetables and dense liquid may give benefits. BRAT diet is also recommended, it includes banana, rice, applesauce and toast. Certain substances should be avoided until you feel better. The substances include dairy products, spicy food, high fat food, caffeine and alcohol. Dairy products such as milk, cheese, yogurt can result in further complications. Food poisoning causes digestive system to suffer with lactose intolerance in a temporary state. Thus, avoid food that contain lactose. Fat and spicy food are difficult to digest. Stomach is tired to work and this will take more time to digest this kind of food.

If the food poisoning continues for a few days or the symptoms like high fever, vision problems and difficult to breath appear, get a doctor immediately. Keep your stomach healthy, because your body still needs it.
